The Federal Governemnt through the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment has inducted 152 inspectors to facilitate weights and measurement standards in the Nigerian trading space.
TheMinister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Richard Adeniyi Adebayo during the induction in Abuja on Tuesday said the ministry is inducting 152 weights and measurement inspectors in line with the provisions of Section 9 of the weights and measurement act which states that non one shall attain to weighing or measuring by all means, except he holds a certificate from the Superintendent that he has sufficient knowledge and skill for the proper performance of duty.
He said there is the need to enhance standards, to ensure compliance and adherence to metrological and measurement standards as they are now certified inspectors and legal metrology officers of weights and measures.

M. Sidi said the weights and measures department has been ensuring transparency in the area of transparency and customer protection in transactions involving measurements.
According to him, asides ensuring transparency the department has been generating reasonable revenue amounting to N500 million in 2018, adding that it has projected a revenue of N5 billion annually.
“As a custodian of measuring and weighing equipments used for trade in Nigeria, twe ensure that standards are maintained in line with the International Bureau of Legal Metrology (IBLM).
“Also, we have ten new procured operational vehicles to the newly trained inspectors and legal metrology officers of weights and measures and have presented testamur certificates.
“The operations of the officials will be in the area verifying grains of indegeneous measures, monitoring of crude oil export at terminals, inspection and testing of pre-packed goods among others.
