Many businesses across the country are bemoaning what they alleged is duplication of the weights and measures function by government agencies as it affects their services. The complainants say the duplication has not only been confusing, it is also frustrating the smooth functioning of their business outlets.

Businesses mostly affected include departmental stores, retail outlets and petrol stations which employ weight and measures equipment as a major component. Many agencies, Sunday Trust’s checks revealed, claim authority on enforcement of standards and connected matters in weights and measures and occasionally visit business outlets in the pursuit of their mandate.
