The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment has taken its stakeholders’ engagement on review of weight and measures to North East states for critical inputs on the new legislation.
The Weight and Measure Department of the ministry, in a meeting with stakeholders from the North East states in Bauchi, yesterday, said it was pertinent to review the established laws regulating the ministry to reflect the current economic situation.

Director of the department, Comfort Emenbu, said global trends in weights and measures administration necessitated that certain aspects of the country’s Weights and Measures Act are reviewed to accommodate global best practices in Legal Metrology and to build trust for trade within the country.
She said: “I crave your indulgence to say, with utmost sense of responsibility, that this event is primarily necessitated by the need to actualise the Nigerian National Quality Policy (NNQP), which was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on January 27, 2021.”
The move will boost the Nigerian private sector’s competitiveness, promote consumer protection and contribute to achieving the objectives of the National Quality Infrastructure Project (NQIP) for Nigeria, she added.
